Año Europeo del Diálogo Intercultural / European Year of Intercultural Dialogue

Este año 2008 ha sido declarado por la Comisión Europea “Año Europeo del Diálogo Intercultural”.

Se pretende con este año europeo sensibilizar a los ciudadanos, en especial los jóvenes, sobre los retos que implica la aceptación del principio de la diversidad cultural, aumentando la conciencia de los europeos en la solidaridad, respeto y comprensión de otras culturas.

La ampliación de la Unión Europea, la desregulación de las leyes de empleo y la globalización han contribuido a aumentar el carácter multicultural de muchos países, sumando más lenguas, religiones y orígenes étnicos y culturales al continente. Por ello, el diálogo intercultural adquiere cada vez un papel más importante en el fomento de la identidad y la ciudadanía europea. (DG EAC)

En este sentido “el diálogo” abierto por la Comisión Europea, debe reflejar la autentica realidad lingüística de Europa (no sólo en la Unión), y es aquí donde el rromanès debe tomar una importancia notoria.

Si estimamos la población romaní europea en aproximadamente 10 millones de ciudadanos, esto no lleva a que, casi un 80% de esa población habla rromanès además del idioma del país en el que residen. Los diversos dialectos que existen dentro de la propia lengua romaní, estimados en unos 60, muestran la distribución de las lenguas romaníes por toda Europa.

Todos sabemos que los Rroma son la minoría étnica mas importante de Europa, por ser la más numerosa y por ser la más antigua, los que nos convierte en ciudadanos de pleno derecho.

El rromanès, al ser la lengua de un pueblo minoritario y muchas veces marginado ha recibido poco reconocimiento legal dentro del marco europeo, por eso consideramos que la lengua romaní ha de ser considerada como uno más de los idiomas minoritarios europeos de la Carta Europea de las Lenguas Regionales y Minoritarias.

Este paso es esencial para la defensa y mantenimiento del rromanès como lengua de pleno derecho en Europa, y como recuperación de la propia lengua en los territorios donde existe población romanì.

¿Será este Año Europeo del Diálogo Intercultural un primer paso para que el rromanès cobre la importancia que merece? Eso esperamos.

This “dialogue” launched by the European Commission, must reflect the authentic linguistic reality of Europe (not just in the Union), and it is here where the rromanès must take a noticeable importance.

If we consider the European Roma population about 10 million people, lead us to that, almost 80% of this population, speaks rromanès addition to the language of the country in which they reside. The various dialects that exist within the Romani language, estimated at some 60 shows the distribution of languages Roma throughout Europe.

We all know that Rroma are the ethnic minority most important Europe,the most numerous and the oldest, this aspect which them makes full citizens.

The rromanès, is the language of a minority people marginalized, has received little recognition within the European framework, is why we believe that the Romany language has to be regarded as one of Europe’s minority languages of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.

This step is essential to the defense and maintenance of rromanès language as a full partner in Europe, and as recovery of the native language in the territories where there romanì population.

Will this European Year of Intercultural Dialogue will be a first step so that the copper rromanès the importance it deserves? That we hope.

Área de lingüística romaní en el Instituto de Cultura Gitana /Linguistic Area on the Rroma Culture Institute

El pasado 3 de diciembre de 2007 tuvo lugar la Gala de presentación del Instituto de Cultura Gitana.

Esta fundación del sector público estatal promovida por el Ministerio de Cultura, se encargará de promover y divulgar la historia, la cultura y la lengua gitana a través de estudios y publicaciones.

Una de las áreas de la Fundación, es el “Área de lingüística romaní”, que estará dirigida por Nicolás Jiménez, sociólogo y uno de los mayores expertos en lengua romaní de Europa.

Esta área estará compuesta, además del propio Nicolás, con un equipo de asesores, profesores, filólogos y pedagogos que se encargarán de elaborar el método de aprendizaje del romanó estándar a través de los manuales “Sar San” (como estas).

Este proyecto estará compuesto por libros del alumno, cuadernos de trabajo, materiales audio visuales, guías del profesor, que podrá ser seguido por alumnos autodidactas, así como por grupos llevados por un monitor.

Este método se pretende incluir en los planes de formación en las escuelas con presencia de alumnos gitanos.

Desde este blog, “rromani chib”, nos ponemos a disposición del Instituto de Cultura Gitana para poder ofrecerle toda la ayuda, servir como herramienta, o de cualquier otra manera en la que pueda colaborar.

Quizás este sea el paso más importante para la recuperación del rromanès en España, un pequeño paso eso si, pero necesario, esperamos que esto produzca un efecto en cadena, es decir, que los propios alumnos que vayan aprendiendo el método y vayan familiarizándose con el rromanès, puedan impartir, una vez adquiridos los conocimientos necesarios, cursos, clases o seminarios dedicados al rromanès, para llevarlo a todos los gitanos ávidos de aprender.

Last December 3, 2007 took place the presentation of Rroma Culture Institute. This foundation of the public state sector promoted by the Department of Culture of the Spanish Government, it will take charge of the promoting and spreading the history, the culture and the rroma language across studies and publications.

One of the areas of the Foundation, is ” Area of romaní linguistics “, that will be directed by Nicolás Jiménez, sociologist and one of the greatest experts in rromani language of Europe. This area will be composed, by a team of advisers, teachers, philologists and pedagogues who will take charge elaborating the method of learning of the standard romanó across the manuals “Sar San” (How are you?).

This project will be composed by books of the student, notebooks of work, material audio visual, guides of the teacher, who will be able to be followed by students self-taught, as well as by groups directed by a monitor. This method tries to be included in the plans of formation in the schools with presence of rroma students.

From this blog, ” rromani chib “, We’re at disposal of the Rroma Culture Institute to be able whole help, to serve as tool, or of any other way in the one that could collaborate.

Probably this one is the most important step for the recovery of the rromanès in Spain, a small, but necessary, we hope that this produces an effect in chain, that is to say, that the own students who are learning the method, they can familiarizing themselves with the rromanès, could give, once acquired the necessary knowledge, courses, classes or seminars dedicated to the rromanès, to take it to all the rroma eager to learn.

La Presencia Rromani en la Wikipedia/ Rromani presence on Wikipedia

Como mucho de vosotros probablemente sabréis, la Wikipedia es una enciclopedia on-line, que cualquier persona puede añadir, modificar o corregir, y que se ha convertido en uno de los websites mas populares de la red. Pues bien, hace unos días se publicó en el Roma Virtual Network una noticia interesante: la presencia gitana en la Wikipedia, donde han sido muchos los gitanos y gitanas que han contribuido a subir información a este lugar, sobre la lengua, la cultura, tradición, origines etc. De hecho, hay una versión de esta singular enciclopedia en nuestra lengua rromanès, o mejor dicho, una adaptación a varios dialectos de rromanès. Os dejo aquí un enlace para todos aquellos que sintáis curiosidad.

Aunque también hay más categorías sobre la presencia romaní en esta enciclopedia donde reside información bastante interesante, aunque toda ella en inglés. (Los de habla hispana parece que no nos hemos animado mucho a contribuir).

A los que no os resulte muy difícil el inglés os resultará fácil navegar por este sitio, ya que hay mas enlaces dentro de los propios enlaces. Pero como todo lo que tenga que ver con los gitanos, por desgracia siempre crea controversia, estas versiones en rromanès, y estos artículos, han creado bastante polémica, sobre todo entre los propios autores, que no se ponen de acuerdo sobre los contenidos y sobre la “Romanipèn”.

 También os aviso que en la Wikipedia, al ser de acceso libre, y que todo el mundo puede escribir en ella (siempre y cuando uno esté registrado), pues no toda la información que aparece en ella es correcta, como por ejemplo, en una de las categorías sobre personajes famosos, en el apartado de futbolistas, aparece Jose Antonio Reyes, futbolista por todos conocidos, pero que NO ES GITANO.

De hecho, os dejo un enlace de un portal inglés que entrevistó a Reyes hace un tiempo cuando militaba en el Arsenal y se le preguntaba esplicitamente sobre su origen romaní, y el dice NO, NO SOY GITANO.

As you probably know, the Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia online, that any person can add, modify or correct, and that has become like one of websites most popular of the network. Then, days ago was published in Roma Virtual Network interesting news: the gypsy presence in the Wikipedia, where the gypsies have been many and who have contributed to raise information this encyclopaedia, on the language, the culture, tradition, the origins etc. In fact, exist a rromanès version of this singular encyclopaedia in our language, or rather, an adaptation to several dialects of rromanès. I leave here a connection you for all those that you feel curiosity.

 Also I warn you that in the Wikipedia, to the being of free access, and that the whole world can write in it (always and when one is registered), not all the information that appears in this site is correct, for example, in one of the categories on famous figures, in the football players’ site, there appears Jose Antonio Reyes, football player very famous, but that HE IS NOT RROMA.   

In fact, I leave a link of a web who interviewed the football player a time ago when he was playing in Arsenal and one was asking him on his origin romaní, and he says NOT, I AM NOT GYPSY.

Jornadas Culturales Gitanas en Valencia/ Cultural Rroma Meeting in Valencia

¡Hola a todos y todas!

Después de casi un mes ausente debido a mis continuos viajes, de nuevo estoy aquí con vosotros para contaros más novedades sobre nuestra romani chib.  Los días 18 y 19 de mayo se celebraron en Valencia, unas Jornadas culturales organizadas por la Federación Maranatha de asociaciones gitanas donde pudimos analizar la situación de la comunidad gitana europea, nuestros nuevos retos y nuevas oportunidades que nos encontramos los gitanos de hoy en día.  Mi amigo Demetrio, tuvo la gentileza de invitarme a estas jornadas, donde tuve la oportunidad de participar en una mesa sobre “nuevas tecnologías y medios de comunicación. Nuevos retos, nuevos recursos”. Fue un placer para mí intervenir en estas jornadas donde, por supuesto, hablé de este (vuestro) blog. Era realmente interesante encontrar a tanta gente interesada en el rromanès, sobre su aprendizaje, sus inicios, su procedencia.Además fue maravilloso encontrarme de nuevo con mi admirado Marcel Courthiade (kako Marcel) que nos deleitó una vez con su intervención en la Conferencia “Historia y Lengua del Pueblo Gitano, la Romipen”.  Marcel nos habló de la ruta de los Rrom que salieron de la India, por qué tomaron ese camino, y como se adentraron en Europa, y en especial, en España. 

También intervino Trajko Petrovski, Investigador de Lengua e  Historia romani, Etnólogo del Folklore Institute of Skopje, Macedonia, que nos habló de un ilusionante proyecto sobre el rromanès. Su idea es poder trabajar en España con las Universidades de nuestro país y con la colaboración de algunas entidades gitanas, para dar cursos de rromanès, pero cursos de verdad, su iniciativa tratar de formar a los futuros formadores en la rromani chib, e ir encadenando conocimientos para afianzar el estudio de nuestra lengua, y quien sabe, tal vez podamos recuperarla definitivamente. Desde aquí, quiero agradecer a todos los amigos de la Federación Maranatha por su invitación, por su acogida, y por su exquisito trato con todos nosotros, desde aquí, mil gracias, además me dieron la oportunidad de pasar unos días inolvidables no solo por las jornadas sino…

Hello to all!

After almost an absent month due to my continuous trips, I am here with you for tell more news again on ours romani chib. 18, 19  of May were celebrated in Valencia, cultural Days organized by the Federation Maranatha of rroma associations where we could analyze the situation of the European rroma community, our new challenges and new opportunities. My friend Demetrio had the gentility to invite me to these days, where I had the opportunity to participate in a table on “new technologies and mass media. New challenges, new resources”. It was a pleasure for me to take part in these days where, of course, I spoke of this (yours) blog. He was really interesting to find to as much people interested in rromanès, on his learning, its beginnings, and their origin. In addition was wonderful to find me with my admired Marcel Courthiade again (kako Marcel) who once delighted with his intervention in the Conference “History and Language to us of the Rroma Community, the Romipen”. Marcel spoke to us of the route of the Rrom that left India, so that they took that way, and as they were entered in Europe, and special, in Spain.

Also, took part Trajko Petrovski, Investigator of Language and History romani, Etnólogo of the Institute Folklore of Skopje, Macedonia, who spoke to us of a ilusionante project on rromanès. Its idea is to be able to work in Spain with the Universities of our country and the collaboration of some rroma organizations, to give courses of rromanès, but courses really, their initiative to try to form to the futures teachers in rromani chib, and to be chaining knowledge to strengthen the study of our language, and who knows, perhaps we pruned to recover it definitively.

From here, I want to be thankful to all the friends of the Maranatha Federation by its invitation, its welcome, and its exquisite deal with all we, from here, thousand thanks, in addition they gave the opportunity me to spend unforgettable days not only through the days but…

El “Romani Project” de la Universidad de Manchester, anuncia el lanzamiento del DVD-Educativo “The Romani Languages – An Interactive Journey”. (la lengua romanì, un viaje interactivo”. El proyecto sigue la historia de la lengua desde la India antigua hasta Europa, con la aparición de sus múltiples dialectos y de muchos esfuerzos por la estandardización.  El texto y la narrativa audio aparecen en 18 diversas lenguas europeas, incluyendo el Romani.  Se incluyen juegos, mapas, ilustraciones, audio y los archivos interactivos del vídeo. The Romani Project at the University of Manchester is proud to announce the launch of its educational DVD-ROM: “The Romani Languages – An Interactive Journey”. The resource follows the history of the language from ancient India to Europe, through the emergence of dialects and standardisation efforts. The text and audio narrative appear in 18 different European languages, including Romani. Camelamos nakerar / We want to speak

Antes de empezar a escribir quiero daros las gracias a todos y todas los que entrais cada día en el blog, que cada día está mas poblado de visitas.  Realmente estoy alucinado de la buena acogida que ha tenido, y de la difusión tan enorme que entre todos estais haciendo, de todo corazón, Gracias.

Y hablando de la difusión de este blog, el pasado lunes 16 de abril, estuve en la radio andaluza, Canal Sur Radio, en el programa “Camelamos Nakerar”, presentado por Amaro Jiménez.

La verdad es que fue una sorpresa cuando mi amiga Elisa, que tambien trabaja en este programa, me propuso entrevistarme en el programa acerca de este blog.

Y la verdad fue una gozada compartir ese rato con esos gitanos que también dominan los medios de comunicación, desde aqui, tanto a Elisa como a Amaro, les doy las gracias, por darme la oportunidad de difundir un poquito más, este blog que es vuestro, de todos los gitanos que amais nuestra cultura, de todos aquellos que “camelais nakerar”.

Before beginning to write I want to thank to all those that you enter every day blog, that every day receives more visits. I am really very happy of the good welcome that it has had, and of the so enormous diffusion that between all you doing, sincerely, Thanks. And talking about of the diffusion of this blog, the past Monday 16 of April, I was in the Andalusian radio, (Canal Sur Radio), in the program “Camelamos Nakerar”, presented by Amaro Jimenez. It was a surprise when my friend Elisa, who also works in this program, proposed to me to interview to me in the program about this blog.

Was wonderful to share that moments with those rroma who also dominate mass media, from here, as much to Elisa as to Amaro, I thank to them, to give me the opportunity to spread this blog, that also is yours, of all rroma who love our culture, of all those that “camelais nakerar”.

Bueno, en la sección de “palabras y expresiones mas comunes “, ya estoy añadiendo mas cosas, para poder aprender un poquito mas, a la vez que lo voy aprendiendo yo mismo.  Puntualmente, cuando vaya poniendo mas actualizaciones, os iré avisando por aqui.

Por cierto, son muchas las personas (no españolas) que me han pedido que ponga la traducción del blog en inglés. Realmente lo estoy intentando, pero mi inglés es mas bien cortito, por lo que traducir todo esto, pues la verdad me resulta complicado, aún asi, estoy trabajando en ello, y seguramente ficharé a alguien para que me vaya echando una mano, de momento, algunas traducciones (las mas sencillas) pues ya están echas, y en la medida de lo posible, cuando haga traducciones “rromanès-español” incluiré también el inglés.

También comentaros que estoy recopilando palabrita por palabrita para hacer una “especie” de diccionario, simplemente para saber los significados. (Próximamente)

In the section of “words and more common expressions “,  I am adding more things, to be able to  learn a bit more. Punctually, when I’m putting more updates, I will be warning you here. Also, there are many people (not Spanish) that have asked me to put the translation of the blog in English. Really I am trying it, but only I speak English a little. Some translations (the simplest) already are done, and when I make translations “rromanès-Spanish” I will include also the English. Also I would like to say that I am compiling a lot of words to create a little dictionary, simply to know the meanings. (Soon)

Una Antropóloga gitana en la blogosfera

Una gitana mas en el apasionante mundo de los blog en Internet, nos cuenta cosas interesantes con noticias referentes a gitanos y gitanas del mundo.
Tiene una iniciativa que se llama “Operación Google” que todos los gitanos y gitanas deberiamos apoyar.
La idea se basa en poder reflejar, a través de Internet, y más concretamente del buscador Google, uno de los más visitados, este hecho. Una propuesta ha sido que en el logotipo del famoso buscador pueda aparecer adornado con los colores y la bandera gitana ondeando. Ese día, millones de usuarios google, sabrían de la existencia del día Internacional del Pueblo Gitano.
